Ten minute Exercises

Short on time? No excuses - just ten minutes per day will increase your fitness and help you burn fat.

It has to be the right kind of exercise to burn fat.  All exercise is beneficial to health but if you want to burn fat and make fitness improvements you have to try HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training.

The reason HIIT training works and can be done in such a short space of time is because you work as hard as you can for short periods. This raises your heart rate and increases your oxygen requirement.  You then recover and repeat for as many times as you can manage but ten minutes is a good compromise for those of us short on time.  The body then takes up to 24 hours to replace that oxygen meaning that the metabolism is working harder and burning fat for that entire time.  Sounds good, eh?

A sample programme:

40 secs on, 20 secs rest
1. squats
2 jumping jacks
3. press ups
4. high knee runs on spot
5. the plank
6. skipping
7. lunges
8. v-sits (or sit-ups)
9. press ups
10. burpees

Warm up with five minutes of jogging on the sport first then work through each exercise for 40 secs then rest for 20 secs until you have completed all ten.  You will find you have worked your whole body and you are sweating and out of breath and it only took ten minutes.

Any combination of exercises will do provided you get your heart rate raised.

Give it a go.  Try it every day for a week and see how much your fitness has improved.
